Welcome to NHS South West Local Supervising Authority. NHS South West Strategic Health Authority holds the statutory responsibility for the Local Supervising Authority. The Local Supervising Authority covers the counties of Avon, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Channel Islands are also covered by this Local Supervising Authority.
Statutory supervision of midwives has been operating in the United Kingdom for over a hundred years and each Local Supervising Authority is responsible for ensuring that it is effective. It has developed to become a means by which midwives are supported and developed in, and with, their practice.
